ESL and Disney have announced a new partnership that will bring two new programs to the youth-minded Disney XP channel.
“ESL Brawlers” and “ESL Speedrunners” will be a part of the ew new late-night gaming program on the Disney XP channel. The channel itself is rapidly gaining ground in the Esports world as ‘the’ place for gaming-related content after broadcasting the Wii U EVO championships finals in Street Fighter 5 and Super Smash Bros.
ESL Brawlers are set to debut on July 20 and will initially feature Street Fighter 5 gaming content. The mobile MOBA Vainglory will also get some coverage during the seventh episode. The show is supposed to “test the limits of some of the most skilled Street Fighter V players to determine the best player over the course of six action-packed episodes,” according to a statement by ESL .
“Challengers enter a grueling first to 10 match for a chance at the throne, while the reigning winner must defend their title from new challengers each week.”
Meanwhile, ESL Speedrunners will gather “the best speedrunners from around the world to jump, fly, and warp through favorite titles, chasing the elusive world record”. This show should go live in August, but no concrete date has been set.
“Creating original programming is one of ESL’s top priorities and we are thrilled to partner with Disney’s D|XP to create engaging content for their audience,“ ESL’s Nik Adams said in a statement.
“ESL is a leader in competitive gaming and we are excited to bring this original programming to our D|XP audience,” added Disney’s Marc Buhaj.
ESL has been very busy expanding their business. They recently also joined forces the University of York to announce a new esports program, and have also signed a deal with Facebook. They are planning to open a new regional office in South-East Asia as well.
